Terry Jones arrested in attempt to burn Quran, while U.S. military burns Bibles

September 13, 2013

On Wednesday, Rev. Terry Jones was arrested before he could burn 2,998 Qurans, as he had planned, in an effort to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Jones, an outspoken critic of the spread of radical Islam, is the pastor of Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida.

ABC News reports:

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reports that Jones and Sapp drove a pickup truck towing a large barbecue-style grill filled with kerosene-soaked Qurans to a park, where they had intended to burn them — one for every victim of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Jones, along with his associate pastor, Marvin Sapp, were charged with the unlawful conveyance of fuel, a felony. Both were held overnight and released the next day on $1,250 bail.

Jones was also charged with unlawful open-carry of a firearm.

Jones has been the target of hundreds of death threats. The Muslim terror group known as Hezbollah has even placed a $2.4 Million bounty on his head, according to the FBI.

In 2010, then-Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, personally phoned Jones, urging him not to go through with his plan to burn a Quran on September 11.

Jones complied with the request. (read more here)
