1) Does Allah misguide only disbelievers? (2:26) or Does he also misguide believers? (Quran 4:157-159)
2) Does Allah preserve believers faith on earth and in the afterlife? (14:27) or Does he allow them to turn away? (4:88-89, 9:11-12)
3) Is Allah The Truth (31:30)? or Does he misguide disbelievers? (2:26)
4) Is Allah all Merciful and All gracious? (1:1 Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem) or does he prohibit disbelievers from believing (2:4-6) and create them for the purpose of disbelieving (16:93, 14:4) so he could send them to hell which he deliberately created for them? (7:178-179, 18:29)
The Quran teaches Allah misguides the wrongdoers:
The logically valid structure of this argument is as follows:
Quran Chapter 14:27: Allah confirmeth those who believe by a firm saying in the life of the world and in the Hereafter, and Allah sendeth wrong-doers astray. And Allah doeth what He will.
Another translation here is:
Allah WILL KEEP FIRM those who believe, with the word that stands firm in this world (i.e. they will keep on worshipping Allah Alone and none else), AND IN THE HEREAFTER. And Allah will cause to go astray those who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.), and Allah does what He wills. Hilali-Khan
Muslims have no problem with Allah misguiding rebels and wrongdoers, as stated by Muslim Apologist Bassam Zawadi:
As for Allah making it appear as if the deeds of the evil doers are good, this is how He continues to misguide them. However, does that make it Allah's fault? No, the reason why Allah is misguiding them is because they themselves are corrupted and don't want to be in a relationship with Allah in the first place
So here we see that Allah is misguiding those who are already misguided and don't to strive for having a relationship with Allah. So it is their fault, not Allah's. (source)
There are already a few obvious problems with this admission. Firstly if Allah strengthens and keeps firm those who believe, then the most powerful being in the universe is protecting and preserving the believers and and that being cannot fail. As the translators Hiliai-Khan have pointed out in the brackets, the believers would continue to keep on worshiping Allah alone and none else in this life and the hereafter. However this would imply there are no believing Muslims who have ever lost faith since it is Allah who preserves them and keeps them. This falsifies the commands of Allah and Mohammed himself who gave conditions on how to handle apostates, which means apostates can indeed exist. But since I am discussing Quranic contradictions here is what Allah has said:
Then what is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties about the hypocrites? Allah has cast them back (to disbelief) because of what they have earned. Do you want to guide him whom Allah has made to go astray? And he whom Allah has made to go astray, you will never find for him any way (of guidance). They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another). So take not Auliya' (protectors or friends) from them, till they emigrate in the Way of Allah (to Muhammad SAW). But if they turn back (from Islam), take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliya' (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them. Hilal-Khan 4:88-89And:
But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then are they your brethren in religion. We detail our revelations for a people who have knowledge. And if they break their pledges after their treaty (hath been made with you) and assail your religion, then fight the heads of disbelief -- Lo! they have no binding oaths in order that they may desist. (9:11-12)Maududi provides the historical context:
The following is the occasion for the revelation of this verse: During the pilgrimage (hajj) in A.H. 9 God Most High ordered a proclamation of an immunity. By virtue of this proclamation all those who, up to that time, were fighting against God and His Apostle and were attempting to obstruct the way of God's religion through all kinds of excesses and false covenants, were granted from that time a maximum respite of four months. During this period they were to ponder their own situation. If they wanted to accept Islam, they could accept it and they would be forgiven. If they wanted to leave the country, they could leave. Within this fixed period nothing would hinder them from leaving. Thereafter those remaining, who would neither accept Islam nor leave the country, would be dealt with by the sword. In this connection it was said: "If they repent and uphold the practice of prayer and almsgiving, then they are your brothers in religion. If after this, however, they break their covenant, then war should be waged against the leaders of kufr (infidelity). Here "covenant breaking" in no way can be construed to mean "breaking of political covenants". Rather, the context clearly determines its meaning to be "confessing Islam and then renouncing it". Thereafter the meaning of "fight the heads of disbelief" (9:11,12) can only mean that war should be waged against the leaders instigating apostasy. (source)Now that we know Islam teaches "once Muslim always Muslim" and contradicts itself, it's time to move on to the second issue. The second issue is the Muslim acceptance that Allah in fact misguides anyone, when according to the Quran Allah is the complete truth. The arabic word for "truth" is "haqq" and is used to denote that which is real, living and true. Muslims believe the title "Al Haqq", "The Truth" is a name/attribute that belongs to God alone, God being the ultimate source of all truth and the reality itself!:
In that situation the only protection is from Allah, the Real. He gives the best reward and the best outcome. 18:44
High exalted be Allah, the King, the Real! Do not rush ahead with the Qur’an before its revelation to you is complete, and say: “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” 20:114
That is because Allah— He is the Truth , and what you call upon besides Him is falsehood. Allah is the All-High, the Most Great. 31:30
That is because Allah is the Real, gives life to the dead, and has power over all things. 22:6
Neither the Jews, nor the Christians, will accept you, unless you follow their religion. Say, "GOD's guidance is the true guidance." If you acquiesce to their wishes, despite the knowledge you have received, you will find no ally or supporter to help you against GOD. 2:120Therefore it is quite clear that the Quran implicitly teaches that Allah cannot deceive or lie or misguide since Allah by his very attribute is THE TRUTH! It is therefore impossible for Allah to misguide anyone.
The logically valid structure of this argument is as follows:
1) If Allah is the truth, he cannot misguide
2) Allah is the truth
3) Therefore he cannot misguide
The third problem is let us presume Allah is the truth but still somehow has the ability to misguide and guide those who are sincere to guidance and those who are corrupt astray. In other words, we will be charitable and use magic to surpass logical contradictions and grant this assumption. This is still problematic for the following reasons. According to the Quran 14:27, once a believer is made firm he will believe in Allah alone on earth and in paradise. This means the sincere person whom Allah guides has no ability to stumble and hence he will always be guided, he has no choice but to be guided. Likewise the corrupted, evil doers whom Allah continuously misleads have no choice but to stay in deception and misguidance. The Quran makes this point clear aswell:
Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they WILL NOT BELIEVE. Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. S. 2:6-7
Then what is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties about the hypocrites? Allah has cast them back (to disbelief) because of what they have earned. Do you want to guide him whom Allah has made to go astray? And he whom Allah has made to go astray, you will never find for him any way (of guidance) 3:88Hence why didn't Allah make it possible for the corrupted, evil doers to repent and believe, instead he sets a seal on their hearts and eyes making it impossible to ever believe in Allah, implying he wants to see their destruction:
Whomsoever Allah guides, he is the guided one, and whomsoever He sends astray, those! They are the losers. And surely, We have created many of the jinns and mankind for Hell. They have hearts wherewith they understand not, they have eyes wherewith they see not, and they have ears wherewith they hear not (the truth). They are like cattle, nay even more astray; those! They are the heedless ones. S. 7:178-179 Hilali-Khan
Say: (It is) the truth from the Lord of you (all). Then whosoever will, let him believe, and whosoever will, let him disbelieve. Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers Fire. Its tent encloseth them. If they ask for showers, they will be showered with water like to molten lead which burneth the faces. Calamitous the drink and ill the resting-place! 18:29Note if Allah is infinitely merciful and gracious (which are two attributes of God in the Quran e.g. 1:1), Allah logically must have given the evildoers and disbelievers and unlimited amount of chances to repent, along with the ability to repent.
1) If Allah is infinitely merciful and gracious then Allah would give the disbelievers the ability to repent and an unlimited amount of opportunities to repent
2) Allah is infinitely merciful and gracious
3) Therefore Allah would give the disbelievers the ability and chance to repent an unlimited amount of times.
But it gets worse, because Allah could have fixed it so everyone was a sincere person whom he could of delivered infallible guidance and by making it impossible that anyone at all stumbled, Allah could of made it so every human being in existence was sincere and then sent them guidance and the ability to never stumble by the power of Allah!:
According to the Quran, part of God's misguidance entails his ability to scheme, trick and deceive and create delusions:
And had Allah willed, He could have made you (all) one nation, but He sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. But you shall certainly be called to account for what you used to do. S. 16:93 Hilali-Khan
And We never sent a messenger save with the language of his folk, that he might make (the message) clear for them. Then Allah sendeth whom He will astray, and guideth whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Wise. S. 14:4
Hence Allah deliberately in his malevolence wanted to fix the disbelievers in disbelieve so they could never believe and Allah could send them to hell. Is this Allah worthy of worship?
Finally lets move on to the contradiction in the Quran. The Quran states:
Verily, Allah is not ashamed to set forth a parable even of a mosquito or so much more when it is bigger (or less when it is smaller) than it. And as for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord, but as for those who disbelieve, they say: "What did Allah intend by this parable?" By it He misleads many, and many He guides thereby. And He misleads thereby ONLY THOSE WHO ARE Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 2:26For whatever strange, bizare oddity, Allah has a rule about who he can and cannot misguide. Allah decides he cannot misguide the sincere. He can only mislead the rebellious, wicked and disobedient ones. Yet according to the Quran, Allah violated this rule by accident. Allah in his attempt to deceive and trick them the disbelieving Jews ended up deceiving the entire world.
According to the Quran, part of God's misguidance entails his ability to scheme, trick and deceive and create delusions:
As to those who believe not in the Hereafter, We have made their deeds pleasing in their eyes; and so they wander about in distraction. S. 27:4
Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believer. Allah has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. S. 2:6-7
Then when 'Iesa (Jesus) came to know of their disbelief, he said: "Who will be my helpers in Allah's Cause?" Al-Hawariun (the disciples) said: "We are the helpers of Allah; we believe in Allah, and bear witness that we are Muslims (i.e. we submit to Allah)."Our Lord! We believe in what You have sent down, and we follow the Messenger ['Iesa (Jesus)]; so write us down among those who bear witness (to the truth i.e. La ilaha ill-Allah - none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). And (the unbelievers) plotted and planned, and God too planned, and the best of planners is God. Behold! God said: "O Jesus! I will take thee and raise thee to Myself and clear thee (of the falsehoods) of those who blaspheme; I will make those who follow thee superior to those who reject faith, to the Day of Resurrection: Then shall ye all return unto me, and I will judge between you of the matters wherein ye dispute.3:54-55
While I believe this is a sugarcoated translation Muslims do not.
Muslims believe Allah planned and schemed against the Jews by taking Jesus from this physical world and raising him to himself, preventing the Jews from murdering Jesus. But the Quran goes into further detail. How exactly would Allah raise Jesus to himself while continuing to misguide the disbelieving rebellious Jews into accepting further false delusions?
That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Apostle of God"; - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- 4:157 Yusef Ali
Or as a different translation puts it:
And because of their saying (in boast), "We killed Messiah 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allah," - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of 'Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not [i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)]: 4:157 Hilali-Khan
So as it turns out Allah not only perpetually kept the disbelieving Jews into accepting this deception of Jesus dying on the cross but Allah managed to deceive the family and disciples of Jesus and the rest of the world as an indirect result of his misguiding the disbelieving Jews he misguided the family and disciples of Jesus!
So unfortunately Allah doesn't just deceive the disbelievers, it turns out Allah accidently deceives everyone else included due to his own incompetency!
Hence honest Muslims will always ask themselves this question: Does Allah misguide only rebels and disbelievers? as per Quran 2:26 or Does he also misguide disbelievers and believers? (Quran 4:157-159).
Yet another contradiction in the glorious Quran!
But there is one last question that must be answered. If we presume this is not a contradiction, How on earth can the Quran speak so highly of Mary and the Apostles of Jesus yet if the Quran is true that Allah may only misguide the rebellious, disobedient and wicked, then this must have also included the family and helpers of Jesus! Hence Mary is a disobedient, rebellious, disbeliever. So much for the Muslim claim that Islam respects and treats Mary as the most esteemed woman ever.
