I'll keep this short and simple for you. Mormons believe Jesus is the physical offspring of God the Father and Mary. They believe Jesus is the Son of God and God is his literal biological father.
Do Mormons believe Jesus is the Son of God?
Not in the sense that the Bible and the Church have said.
The Church and Bible teach Jesus is God because Jesus has all the attributes, prerogatives, abilities, and powers of God he has the very nature of God.
Jesus created the universe, God was manifested in the flesh, God did not exist in the flesh before he took on the nature of a male body..
Mormons however believe Jesus merely existed as a spirit being while his spirit being brother was Lucifer (Satan). Mormons believe the universal is eternal, and all men have potential to become gods, just like Jesus became a god.
So Do Mormons believe Jesus is the Son of God? The difference is simple:
- Jesus is eternally (past and present and future) God and Creator in Christianity
- Jesus became a God after his Resurrection in Mormonism, the Universe has always existed no need for it to be created in Mormonism.
It's very important to accurately represent the position of another instead of straw-man (attacking a position they don't have), and now you have the knowledge to know what they actually believe.

So, Do Mormons believe Jesus is the Son of God? The answer is yes: In the same sense that the Qur'an (Islamic Scripture) falsely accuses Christians of thinking God has biological offspring. They believe he is the Son of God not in a spiritual sense, but in the physical sense.
Well I'm confused. It says in what is called the Bible, by God, "We will make man in our image".
ReplyDeleteKinda sounds like God had arms, legs, head, torso, genitalia and such just like us since we were made in His image.
I'm still confused. What don't they get?
If Jesus is god, then who was he praying to in the garden of gethsemane? What a rock or something? No, he was praying to his father, (god). What don't you people get? It's in the bible!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous 1,
ReplyDeleteThe Bible, which you have just quoted, also clearly states that God is Spirit. EIther that verse is wrong, or God meant that humans would be like God in ways other than physical presentation.
@ Anonymous 2,
Yes the idea of the trinity is difficult for many Christians and non-Christians alike. Yet most Christians attend churches that teach it. God is one but in three persons, Father Son and Spirit so when Jesus, God the Son, prays to God, God the Father, yes he is talking to someone else. If you don't like it, try and decipher the first chapter of the Gospel of John without a trinitarian perspective. I do not think it rationally possible. Modalists certainly fail and Mormonism doesn't come close.
The thing is we humans are not capable of knowing or fully understanding God's every way.
ReplyDeleteA good study bible kjv. or niv will be helpful to better understand better HIS being and ways.
GOD is The creator/designer of all and we are one of HIS creations. It is crazy to think we can know how it all works. Faith and a lot of humility will help a believer understand more of Gods word when we "seek God with all our heart and mind".
